BJP president Rajnath Singh today said his party would oppose any move to increase the prices of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and other petroleum products.
Addressing a press conference here, he pointed out that the Rangrajan panel had recommended hike in the prices of domestic LPG by Rs 75 and of petrol and diesel, which, he said, would trigger overall price rise of essential commodities.
Stating that the UPA government had apparently lost its grip on the control on country's economic condition, he claimed that the prices of all essential commodities had already increased by 15 to 95 per cent in the past two years.
He said the party would organise protests from March 20 to 26 across the country against the government's failure to contain price rise.
Referring to the controversy over the alleged head count of Muslims in armed forces, the BJP president said he had already asked his party's governments in the states not to cooperate with any such survey. ''We don't favour any head count on the basis of religion,'' he added.
Alleging that the Congress was continuing its policy of appeasement, Mr Singh said the demographic profile of many states, including West Bengal, were changing because of the ''infiltration'' from Bangladesh.
